Job Title: Full-Time Custodian

Facilities: Church (218 Main Street), Parsonage (232 Main Street), Secondary (236 Main Street), Associate Parsonage (44 Sterling Place) & Campus

Reports to: Associate Pastor/Chairman of the Facilities Team

Job Summary: To oversee the day-to-day maintenance needs of the facility/campus as well as respond to emergency needs during the school day. In addition, cleaning of the McLain Building (Secondary Building) after the school day is over would be part of the job responsibilities.

Job Qualification: A successful criminal background check, and ability to work around children and to work with volunteers. A basic knowledge of facility repair and maintenance and basic computer literacy is required.

Job Duties: The following is a description of job responsibilities intended to reflect the major responsibilities and duties of the job, but not intended to describe minor duties or other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time. 

Facility Maintenance

  • Safety inspections and reporting

  • Responsible for vehicle maintenance

  • Responsible for lawn & garden equipment maintenance

  • Grounds maintenance – plowing, lawn, leaves, etc.

  • Buildings equipment – elevator, rest rooms, baptistery, etc.

  • Buildings condition – 218, 236, 232, & 44 Sterling

  • Painting – inside and out

  • Cleanliness/appearance

  • Heating & cooling systems including HVAC control system

  • Roof maintenance

  • Elevator operations

  • Electrical needs, Plumbing needs

Cleaning

  • Cleaning of Secondary building at the conclusion of school, including vacuuming, trash removal, etc..

  • During the school day, providing sanitization in both buildings as directed by current pandemic guidelines, which will be provided by the Head of School

  • Attending to emergency situations that may arise with respect to the facility during the school day

Reporting:

  • A monthly, written report to the Facilities Team, copied to the Associate Pastor and Church Board, due the Friday before each board meeting.(google drive)

  • The maintenance of a Master Work List, which includes jobs to be done or work that needs to be scheduled.

  • The maintenance of a Master Tickler File that describes all routine maintenance required by the facility in the month(s) that the requirements come due.

  • A weekly verbal report to the senior pastor (or assignee) to coordinate projects and establish priorities.

This job is rated as a full-time responsibility (40 hours, 8:00-5:00 workday), at the pay rate determined at the time of hire, starting at $15.50/hour.  Since this is a full-time position, benefits will be provided.  These benefits include health insurance which is partially paid by the church, paid holidays, and 2 weeks vacation time which has to be taken during the summer months.  Any overtime needs to be approved by the Associate Pastor.

Employment Terms and Instructions:

1.    This is a 90 day trial employment.  At the end of 90 days, employee and employer will meet to discuss continuation into regular employee status. Either party may walk away without prejudice at the 90 day mark.

2.    Safety inspections are the responsibility of the Custodian.

3.    Employee must carry a cell phone while at work to enable staff members to reach the employee in case of emergency.

4.    Employee must complete Ministry Safe certification before beginning employment.

5.    Hours are logged on a time card, which must be submitted on Friday night of each week. Pay periods are two weeks long.  Payroll is processed on the Monday following the end of the pay period and hits bank accounts (direct deposit) on Friday morning.  If paper checks are elected, they will be placed in the employee’s mailbox in the mail room.

6.    Your immediate supervisor is Rev. Garry Light.  You will also work in connection with the Administration of CCS.

7.    Employee will need to be proficient at using Google Drive and word processing software.  He/she will need to keep his/her passwords confidential and check email daily.

8.    After 90 days, you will have access to the church credit card for material and supply purchasing.  It is essential that all expenses be documented with receipts, and that regular reports of expenditures be submitted.  Church credit cards may never be used for personal expenses, regardless of any reimbursement plans.  Violation of this policy is grounds for termination.  Purchases over $50 must be approved in advance.

9.    Security of the building is of paramount importance.  Because school children are regularly in the building, doors must remain locked and security features kept intact.  Leaving doors opened and allowing students to be exposed to risk is unacceptable.

10.  Chemical and cleaning products must be carefully monitored.  Products that have strong fumes should not be used during school hours, as we have a closed ventilation system. Solvents, Paints, etc. must be used away from children, or when children are not present.

11.  MCN and CCS maintain a professional atmosphere at all times.  Profanity, harassing language or actions, or behavior that injures the climate of our workspace will be identified, and if not eliminated will be grounds for dismissal.

12.  Confidentiality: It is possible that confidential information may be overheard in the hallways or classrooms or offices of the school and church.  All employees agree to guard privileged information, including academic, health or behavioral student information, promising not to share this information with anyone else.
